Any developer coming up with a plan for 6 acres of land located between SW 600-800 blocks on West Atlantic Avenue will be able to submit their ideas for consideration. The area is within ´The Set´, the western neighborhoods of downtown DelrayBeach, which streets stretch from Swinton Avenue to Interstate 95 along Atlantic Avenue.
Having spent $7 million to improve alleyways, medians, landscaping, sidewalks and streetscapes, the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency board has a clear concept of the new project: a grocery store, pharmacy, bank, retail stores, entertainment venues, restaurants, workforce housing and new apartments.
Uptown Atlantic developer John Flynn proposed a makeover plan for the property in 2013 and has offered $1.2 million for the property. But it is an offer that has triggered broad criticism from some city commissioners, past CRA members, and various city residents. They say Flynn’s redevelopment plan and purchase offer, which came back into play this past spring after it was rejected in 2016, is unacceptable in view of a recent appraisal that pegged the property’s value at more than $15 million.
Deadline for proposal is Oct. 4!
